Scott Rhodie is a digital PR and Social Media specialist with a tabloid/broadsheet journalist/public relations background and has been heavily involved in Sydney’s social media scene for some time. He is one of the organisers of the weekly Friday night #SHTBOX (Surry Hills Twitter Beer O’Clock Exchange) gatherings.

Prior to setting up House Party, he worked at B&T’s PR Agency of the Year, Zing, where he worked across clients including Lego, McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, Optus and Toshiba. Before Zing he helped build as the media manager on the Xbox 360 account for Pulse Communications.

In 2006/2007, while working for Network PR he helped launch Paramount Pictures’ digital PR arm in Australia.

Cathie McGinn is one of the principals at digital agency Reading Room, where she’s responsible for strategy, content creation and integrating search and social media with all kinds of other clever digital stuff.

She’s a self-confessed geek and cyber-utopian and is passionate about exploring and responding to the  ways in which the digital revolution is changing our lives.  Like most other web industry professionals, she writes a blog which no one reads (Year of the Cat) and spends far too much time online.

James Fridley (@fridley)

One of the usual suspects of Sydney’s social media events, James is a self proclaimed geek, with a professional background in social political/economic research and analysis. This is tempered with a large tool chest of IT related skills including web design, data security and SEO.

Having spent many years organising events with in the international relations community, he looks forward to doing what he can to support this new group engage event attendees, and create something truly valuable.

In a previous life, Heather was an online editorial director in New York City for Undercurrent Founder Josh Spear and Behance Magazine. Returning to her homeland she found out the hard way that the Australian online publishing industry wasn’t as advanced as she’d hoped. Defecting to the dark side, she started as a copywriter at Amnesia Razorfish, which evolved into her appointment as Social Media Adviser.

Since leaving Amnesia, she has worked as a digital strategy and social media consultant for Host, One Green Bean and Klick Communications.

Gavin Costello (@franksting)

As a conversationalist and oversharer in real life, Gavin has been switched on to the value of what’s become known as Social Media almost since he first signed up to Facebook, Twitter et al a couple of years back.

He firmly believes online is an enormous channel for widening conversations and sharing knowledge with a whole set of new people, promoting a wider world view and, hopefully a much more tolerant society.
Recent Studies show on average, people were much more likely to display their real personality on social networking sites. While we have developed trusted relationships online, often there aren’t places to have those conversations in real life.

Gavin is a part of Digital Citizens because he believes it exists to help us to do this. Gavin believes in sharing stories, why don’t you come and tell us yours?
